In one month I will have a one year old. 11 months ago today I was in the labour delivery room preparing to give birth to my first born. My pregnancy was delightful. No morning sickness, little heart burn and lots to be thankful for. I still struggled with the physical pains of pregnancy; sore back, carpel tunnel, wrestles nights tossing and turning.
My birth story went much differently than my "birth wishes" though, leaving me in a lot of trauma. For months I would cry just at the thought of what went "wrong". It was lonely, hurtful and really left me confused. Luckily, I found amazing support over time which lead me to enroll for my prenatal and postnatal yoga training with Clare Newman from Mamata Yoga. Thankfully, I was able to work through some of my trauma and realized how much I had to offer to the birthing community. I became obsessed with researching how to become stronger through this which connected me with physiotherapists, therapists and other community resources. The amount of life this gave me, plus my meditation and yoga practice has helped me learn that I want to become a friend, mentor and support for other moms going through various birth stories too.
While I love teaching from babies right to seniors, with this passion found from my little eleven month old I am so excited to offer four classes around birth to the Sherwood Park community. I really hope families from surrounding communities will come stretch it out on the mat with us too.
