ABOUT ASHA

I am a Mother. I am a Wife. I am a Daughter. I am a Sister. I am a Teacher.

I am a Friend.

My passion for serving others has been a long and rich process. I have always been an active member in my community and an avid volunteer. In 2004 I had hoped to enroll for my Bachelor in Social Work, but had missed the cut off date. While waiting for the next semester I took a job at a local daycare. To this day I believe the universe was finally saying “we’re proud you took the first step, but it was in the wrong direction. Here let me show you…
I learned more about myself in my two years at the center than I believe I ever taught the children. My commitment for advocating for children and their right to play blossomed and lead me towards earning my Early Childhood Development instead. During these times I also began to learn more about who I was and where I was going. Growing up I always faced depression and struggled with my demons, but university would prove to break me down. I remembered hearing that a yoga studio had opened in the west end and decided to try out hot yoga. I was instantly hooked! I felt in control, powerful, strong and at peace all at the same time.

In 2014 my two passions would collide; yoga and working with young children. I brought Jen Clara into my preschool classroom and was moved by her teachings with the children. I began learning how I could bring more yoga to the preschool children, as well as meditation and mindfulness and enrolled for me Kids Yoga training with Yoga in my School. With this education and my passion I developed a Health & Wellness program for the preschool which earned me a Professional Award of Excellence in Innovative programming with the Government of Alberta.

In 2016 I enrolled to take my 200-hour yoga teacher training with Michele Theoret at Empowered Yoga. I was ecstatic because it would help me have the requirements to be a Registered Kids Yoga Teacher in the community as well as offer me the opportunity to begin teaching adults. However, just before I began my 200 hours began my husband and I learnt we were also expecting our first child! I continued with my training and finished in the Winter before going on maternity leave with our son.

My pregnancy was amazing and I was blessed. We hired a labour doula and she was the greatest gift we could give to our growing family. We had made a birth goal list and were ready to welcome our first born.

I drowned myself in education about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and woman’s health.

After having my son I enrolled for my 85-hour prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher training with Clare Newman at Mamata Yoga ,have training in Spinning Babies® techniques, and am a Postpartum Doula through CAPPA. Taking my prenatal yoga teacher training and Postpartum Doula certification had brought me full circle back to my Early Childhood Development roots. I could use my previous education to serve both the birthing community as well as the early learning community and their families; combining my passions.

I am excited to bring my ever growing and on-going passion of early learning, mothering, meditation and yoga to other families as a Family Yoga Teacher and Postpartum Doula. I look forward to offering my experience and passion to the community.
